Zuri Original
summary
Created over more than 150 hours across six months, Zuri is an intricately layered study of depth, texture and light. Dense black pigment and brushed charcoal build the richness of the fur, while erasers draw light back through the surface to achieve remarkable realism. The work depicts Zuri, a lion who lived at Riverbanks Zoo for nearly two decades and fathered 13 cubs, contributing to African lion conservation before his passing in 2024. Today, one print is held by the zoo, while another was auctioned to raise funds for vital animal care and conservation projects.
